On the third anniversary of the death of Pope Benedict XVI, who passed away on 31 December 2022, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, former Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, presided over a Mass at St Peter’s Basilica, where in his homily he recalled Ratzinger as a “cooperator of the truth” who left the Church with an exceptional theological legacy and said that he “is not a figure of the past, but a member of the living Body of Christ, which is one in heaven and on earth.”
