Typhoon Maria is currently making landfall in eastern China. This sequence of enhanced infrared satellite images shows Maria crossing Japan's Miyako Islands and passing to the north of Taiwan during the last 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) estimated that winds near Maria's core were gusting to around 220km/h this morning prior to landfall. This is equivalent to a high end category 3 tropical cyclone on the Australian scale. | Weatherzone
